A powerful tornado ripped through North Texas early Sunday morning, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Trucks were overturned, homes damaged, and nearly 250,000 households lost power.
Local officials confirmed the tragic deaths of at least five people as a result of the tornado. As of 6 am Thursday, over 110,000 energy customers remained without power, along with nearly 20,000 in North Texas.
Tornado Warnings Expire in North Texas
Tornado warnings expired in North Texas at 1 am Sunday, marking the end of a three-hour period of severe weather. Videos captured the flooding of streets in New Orleans.
Despite the damage and loss, residents of the affected areas expressed gratitude for their safety. "We're safe, that's the most important thing," said one resident.
Multiple Severe Storms Reported Across the Country
In addition to the tornado in North Texas, over 200 severe storms were reported across the United States on Wednesday. Three more tornadoes touched down in North Texas on March 16, two weeks after the initial storm.
Meteorologists note that February is the last day of meteorological winter, highlighting the unusual timing of these severe weather events.
